Brantford–Brant South candidates to debate Monday, Nov. 9 — before nominations even close

BrantVotes graphic: Candidate Debate, Monday November 9, Rogers TV, Brantford–Brant South

The candidates running in the Brantford–Brant South federal by-election will meet for a debate on Monday, November 9, at Rogers TV. The event is organized by the Chamber of Commerce Brantford-Brant and the Brantford Home Builders’ Association, and it will be recorded and broadcast on Rogers in the days leading up to Election Day on Monday, December 7.

All four candidates named so far are expected to take part:

  • Joy O’Donnell — Liberal
  • Kevin Davis — Conservative
  • Dave Carrol — Independent
  • Brad Ward — NDP

Ward is expected to be confirmed as the NDP candidate at the party’s nomination meeting today, Saturday, November 7. The other candidate for the nomination, Andy Straisfeld, is endorsing Ward.

The candidates can expect questions on the cost of living, transportation, the economy and social issues, according to chamber officials.

A debate before the field is final

It is an early debate. Nominations for the by-election do not close until Monday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m., so the candidate list is not final yet — other candidates could still join the race before then. Anyone watching Monday’s debate should keep that in mind: the people on stage are the candidates named so far, not necessarily the full field voters will choose from on December 7.

BrantVotes will profile all of the candidates once the list is final.

County of Brant Community Energy Plan — help shape Brant’s energy future

The County of Brant is developing a Community Energy Plan to better understand how energy is used, supplied and planned for across homes, businesses, farms, transportation and County operations. The plan will look for practical ways to use energy more efficiently, conserve energy, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and plan for future needs. A Renewable Energy Roadmap will also explore renewable and lower-carbon options that could suit Brant. What it will not do: the County does not control energy supply, pricing or utility expansion, and this plan will not extend
